Birgitte Hjort Sørensen is a Danish actress born on 16 January 1982 Hillerød, Denmark. Sørensen is best known for playing Katrine Fønsmark in the television series Borgen and the films Marie Krøyer, Automata and Pitch Perfect 2.
She is a graduate of the Danish National School of Performing Arts. Earlier she had attended the Bistrup School in Birkerød and Øregård Gymnasium in Hellerup. She was aspired to be an actor after watching the West End production of the musical Chicago while at school. Both Birgitte’s parents are doctors and she has two elder sisters.

Career
She made her professional acting debut in 2005 and appeared in one episode of T.V series “The Eagle” as ‘Receptionist’ and in 2006, she made her film debut and appeared in a film titled “Tre Somre” as ‘Nanna’. In 2012, Sørensen portrayed painter Marie Krøyer in the film ‘The Passion of Marie’. The film earned her second Best Actress nomination at the Robert Awards. In 2013 – 2014 she played the role of Virgilia in Coriolanus at The Donmar Warehouse in London.
In 2015, she appeared in the “Hardhome” episode of the HBO fantasy drama series Game of Thrones as Karsi, a wildling chieftain. In the same year, Sørensen starred with Anna Kendrick in Pitch Perfect 2 as Kommissar, the leader of a rival German a cappella group. She made her Broadway debut in the play Les Liaisons Dangereuses in 2015.
